Welcome to this journal site. I am excited to be a part of this project and
look forward to the sharing of the amazing work being done in this field. I strongly believe that the work
being done with people who abuse is minimized, forgotten or mistakenly discredited to such a degree that it
adds to the overall morale of professionals doing the work. You deserve to feel good about the time and energy
you put into this work. Sometimes I know it feels we are having to be hyper alert to all that goes on in
facilitating a group process of people who tend to minimize or deny their own behaviors and are not
responsible nor accountable at the same time we feel the constant need to justify our existence as
professionals in even working with this clientele. This struggle does not need to be exacerbated by added
tensions of maintaining some sort of artificial political correctness and backdoor excuse of, well my real job
is something else.
I have continually found the sharing of stories, successes,
failures, challenges and learning to be the most edifying for me as a professional in this field. Regardless
of the approach and whether I think it has any value, I really think there is a place for its existence and
use with people who abuse.
